Laboratory activities:

Myoelectric control lab at the Department of Neurorehabilitation Engineering focuses on various aspects of myoelectric control of upper limb prosthesis. We are conducting state-of-the-art research in areas such as electromyographic (EMG) signal processing and myoelectric control of prosthesis. In particular, we are the first group to demonstrate online simultaneous and proportional control of multiple degrees of freedom (DOF) based on surface EMG, both in able-bodied subjects and trans-radial amputees (video 1). We are also actively working on robust signal processing algorithms that are less affected by factors, such as arm position change, electrode shift, perspiration, etc. In addition, we work closely with Sensory feedback and sensory fusion lab on the topic of close-loop prosthetic control (video 2).


External Collaborators: Our main external collaboration partner is Otto Bock HealthCare GmbH, with two EU funded collaborative research projects. We also collaborate with Prof. Dr. Oskar Aszmann at the Christian Doppler Lab at the Medical University of Vienna on the topic of bionic reconstruction and targeted muscle reinnveration (video 1). Our work has been published in top-level international journals, such as IEEE Trans. Biomed Eng., IEEE Signal Processing Magazine, Journal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation etc. Our students have been twice nominated to the finalists of the student paper competition at the annual EMBC conference in the last 4 years.
